Staff spotlight – Hugo Clark

Can you tell us about yourself and your background?

I’m an Associate Director of Distribution at Pallas Capital, responsible for managing family offices as well as private high net worth clients.

While my mother is English and my father is a Kiwi, I was actually born and raised in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney – so being based at Pallas House in Double Bay really feels like home.

I first started working in the non-bank lending space in 2017, and made the move to Pallas Capital earlier this year. I haven’t looked back.

How did you come to be part of the Pallas Capital team?

I’d been working with a competitor for a few years and had seen Pallas Capital becoming a bigger and bigger presence in the non-bank lending space.

What they were doing was very impressive, so I approached Dan Gallen (Executive Director & CIO, Pallas Capital) who organised an introduction with Mark Spring and Craig Bannister from the Distribution team.

What does a typical workday look like for you at Pallas Capital?

The first task is checking the day’s transactions to ensure client funds are in as scheduled. Then, I’ll review the remaining balances on existing opportunities, so I know what we have to offer out to investors.

I’ll also look at the week’s pipeline to gauge where the week is headed, deal-wise.

After this, I usually look to contact any new leads who have expressed an interest in Pallas Capital. Finally, I’ll check in on our existing clients to make sure they’re happy.

It’s certainly not your usual 9-5 job. Sometimes you’ll be on the phone all day. Other times, you won’t have that one conversation that makes the day until 10 at night!

What has been your highlight at Pallas Capital so far?

Working with amazing people. It’s an ongoing highlight.

It makes every day such a pleasure when you have such a terrific support team behind you

What are your personal goals for 2021 outside of Pallas Capital?

I recently completed my first half marathon amidst the boredom of Sydney Lockdown 2.0.

My next big goal is to run the full marathon distance, 42.2km.
