Staff spotlight – Matthew Taylor

Can you tell us about yourself?

Since graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Finance, I’ve primarily worked in non-bank lending operations, spanning both residential and commercial mortgages. Most recently, I was Investment Operations Officer with MaxCap Group where I administered both CRE loans and investments. To further complement my skillset, I also pursued a course in data analytics in late 2020, which I’ve now completed.

How did you come to be part of the Pallas Capital team?

While I was with MaxCap Group, I was approached with an opportunity to join Pallas Capital as a Technical Business Analyst. When we discussed my prior experience and further studies, they were very accommodating. They were also genuinely enthusiastic about how my skills could be used within the Pallas business. I immediately knew I wanted to be part of the team.

What does a typical workday look like?

My roles and responsibilities at Pallas are extremely varied. On a typical day I could be;

  • Working on continuous improvement of business processes through process mapping and evaluation.
  • Managing the implementation and ongoing support of business information systems across the company.
  • Working in Excel, creating financial models and data analytics tools for the wider team.

What has been your highlight at Pallas Capital so far?

I’m based in our Melbourne office, so if I had to pick a standout moment, I would have to say visiting Pallas House Sydney recently. I’m always grateful for the opportunity to work in-person with my Sydney colleagues, and the newly-built offices were fantastic to see with my own eyes.

What are your personal goals for 2021 outside of Pallas Capital?

My goal is to read more books. I recently read ‘Principles’ by Ray Dalio, which has inspired me to read even more.
